Zawe Ashton holds a Ba Degree in acting from Manchester Metropolitan School of Theatre. Writing credits include: Farrago UK Poetry Slam! Champion (2000), Dream Factor (National Youth Theatre Schools Tour), Have a Butchers, Sweetness and Light (DryWrite), edible Flowers (DryWrite at Latitude Festival), Girls aloud (Clean Break Theatre). Zawe's first play 'Harm's Way' was shortlisted for the Verity Bargate award (2007). 'arms Way' premiered earlier this year as part of the National Youth Theatre's new writing season at the Lowry Theatre, Salford Quays directed by Tessa Walker. Manchester evening News **** this queasily, gripping 75 minute Drama is tough stuff all right and will either appall or enthrall. Zawe has recently finished her second play as part of the Royal Court Invited Writers Group led by Leo Butler. Leo has since suggested it for the shortlist for the Royal Court Young Writers Festival. Zawe is currently under commisison to Clean Break and working with the Bush theate Futures scheme. Zawe was a Young Writer in Residence at Contact Theatre, Manchester (2006). acting credits include: the Big Nickel by Amy evans, Blue Moon Over Poplar by Rebecca Lenkiewicz (Soho Theatre/National Youth Theatre), Gone Too Far! by Bola agbaje (Royal Court Theatre Upstairs and Downstairs and aTC tour), Othello (Shakespeare's Globe), Rhinoceros/the arsonists (Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs), the Bill (ITV), eastenders, Holby City, In Deep, NCS Manhunt (BBC)

Children's Monologues, The

Dramatic Need (DN) is a UK-registered charity that sends international Arts professionals to do workshops in underprivileged and rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa. Gifted, heavyweight actors will perform monologues written by Lynn Nottage, Bola agbaje, Polly Stenham, Dennis Kelly, Gabriel Bisset-Smith, Oladipo agboluaje, Zawe ashton, Joel Horwood, anya Reiss and Jamie Minoprio, based on autobiographical stories written by the some of the children DN works with.
