Elliott Barry Baker changed directions from business to writing in 1992. While attending a performance of Gershwins Crazy For You in New York, he realized as the orchestra began the overture, that he was never as excited as when he was seated in a theatre with a play about to begin. Changing gears, Baker was accepted by the BMI Lehman Engle musical theatre workshop in New York where he would spend the next four years driving from New Hampshire to New York every Monday to study and perform with many talented writers. He now has several family musicals published as well as one dark musical based on Poe, more appropriate for adults than children. A member of the Dramatists Guild, Baker lives in Durham, New Hampshire with his wife Sally Ann. Their three children, Jason, Stacy, and Eric, are out making their way in the world.

Synopsis:
Eighteen-year-old Katie has a problem: she's a tooth fairy whos just not interested in the family business. While out exploring the human world, Katie meets Max, a young man who inexplicably is able to see her. This is unusual in that the fairy troops are not visible without their consent. Although forbidden to return to the world of humans by her father the king, Katie is determined to see Max again. Their growing friendship becomes moot when during the Centennial, a celebration of all the fairy troops, the Troll King demands his reward for not having kidnapped human children for servants during the last hundred years. In a bid to gain power over the Tooth Fairy King, the Troll King demands Katie work as a servant in the Troll den for the next hundred years. In order to protect her father and the tooth fairy troop, Katie accepts, for the penalty for a king who breaks his word is exile and the disbandment of his fairy troop. When her friends give Max her message that shes sorry she won't be able to see him again, he persuades them to take him to her. In the Troll den they find the one honorable solution that satisfies everyone well, maybe not the Trolls. With humor and suspense, this play will transport young and old to the land of Neverwhen, leaving them lighter than when they sat down.

Reluctant Dragon, The

Synopsis:
Based on the short story by Kenneth Grahame. What happens when a gentle, Shakespeare-loving dragon meets a town badly in need of some diversion? St. George, a semi-retired dragon slayer, has been summoned to rid the town of a terrible threat. Of course neither the villagers, who will do anything for a work holiday, or the wanna-be mayor with his faux French accent, have actually seen the fearsome beast! Only Jack, a sensible, bookish young man, has met and befriended the timid, peace-loving dragon. Join the villagers as they sing Theres a Dragon Loose! Jacks conniving stepmother sings Ive Always Cared for You and the courageous village men perform We Are a Manly Group of Men. The Dragon and St. George start their duel flinging Shakespearean slurs at each other in Theres Art Form to the Insult. Far from being a musical just for children, this smile-filled version shows the many levels of Grahames satire to satisfy every age while the music carries all to a satisfying ending.

Tooth Fairy's Daughter, The

Synopsis:
Eighteen-year-old Katie has a problem: she's a tooth fairy who wants to be a DJ. While out exploring the human world, Katie meets Max, a young man who loves everything about flight. Their growing friendship is short-lived, however, after a centennial celebration of all fairies and troublesome trolls. As a reward for keeping a promise, the trolls demand that Katie become their drudge, or servant, until the next centennial, one hundred years away. Max and several other fairies try to rescue Katie and discover a key piece of information that changes everything. Some of the beautiful, soaring songs include Where the Kites Go and Glorious Moment the challenging Make a New Wish and the lilting Diarmaid and Grania. With humor and suspense, this is a play appeals to adults as well as the children they bring to the theatre. To add in more magic and excitement, this play can be flown. (Non-musical version available is Faerie King's Daughter.)

Young Ebenezer

Synopsis:
Gather round with the ghosts in the graveyard who will show you the real story of Ebenezer Scrooge! This rousing new adaptation of the beloved novel by Charles Dickens has up-tempo songs of melody and memory. With three actors playing Ebenezer Scrooge, we go back to see Ebenezer through young boyhood, young manhood, and finally to the character we know. In This Christmas, Ebenezers family is left homeless thanks to his fathers well-intentioned but unrealistic gift giving. When his mother sells the young, gentle boy into servitude, fellow child laborers paint a bleak picture of life without any money in the song Life Isnt Fair. Thankfully the Fezziwigs rescue the starved young Ebenezer but he vows, I Will Never Forget. As a young man Ebenezers life looks brighter as he and Abigail plan their life together. But those childhood scars lead him and Jacob Marley to an unethical plan to go into business together as they sing When Two Coins Meet One Another. Graveyard hymns and Ebenezer singing Oh, What Rot to his optimistic nephew Fred show Ebenezers depressing, miserly life. Redemption comesfinally!when a montage of music and characters invade Ebenezers sleep, and he awakens at last, saying, And I am here. But not the same. No, never the same. Ghosts aplenty,  colorful denizens of mid-nineteenth century England, and exciting, memorable music will have your audiences humming as they leave the theatre.
