Mourning Glory

Synopsis:
a one-man show about the death of Princess Diana, or rather about public reactions to it. It opens with a series of reminiscences about how various people first heard the news, including an Australian whose wife was upstairs listening to the radio and called down to him, "Darling, Diana and Dodi have had a terrible accident. they were being chased by Pavarotti." after that we progress to an account of the funeral, and the amazing few days that led up to it. Benson doesn't take sides or go for cheap laughs. But his eomments are pointed and often very funny, his impersonations of celebrity mourners tend to be spot-on, and he leaves you with a keener understanding of how between them the media and political manipulation did their best to turn a tragedy into a circus.
