Pamela Dallas Brighton, theatre director, born 22 October 1946 in Bradford, Yorkshire, England as Pamela Dallas Brighton; died 22 February 2015. She grew up in Bradford, West Yorkshire, and became a radical in the late 1960s as a student at the London School of Economics. Her work at the Royal Court theatre, London, where she ran the Young Peoples Theatre Scheme in the early 70s, was an extension of her political commitment. Some of the bad language in her updated young peoples production of Ann Jellicoes The Sport of My Mad Mother prompted protests from the Inner London Education Authority and questions in parliament. She was an old-fashioned Marxian class warrior, combining a big heart and astute intellect with an energy and stubbornness that made her into something like a life force.
