MICHAEL BUCHANAN-SMART

Nationality:    English
email:    n/a     Website:    n/a

Literary Agent:    n/a

Michael Buchanan-Smart was born in Dorset, the youngest and only boy of a large family. When he was six, the family moved to essex and he was later educated at King edward VI Grammar School, then pursued a career in computer banking in London. It was not until the 1980s that Michael became involved with amateur Dramatics. He has now undertaken all aspects including, producing, directing, stage management and trod the boards in farces, Drama, musicals and pantomimes - his favourites. In 1995, Michael decided to write his first pantomime. He created 'Over the Moon', a new magical fairytale based on the nursery rhyme 'Hey Diddle Diddle'. This had five productions in it's first year. Michael has now written 13 pantomimes. all are most traditional yet have a real adventure element and extra characters that the audiences appear to enjoy - even a 'lost' penguin who invariably steals the show in Robin Hood, and a 'Flea' in Dick Whittington who escapes from Dick's cat and hops into the audience! He believes that pantomimes are for children, young and old alike, and the royalties for another of his new pantomime fairytales 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, are donated to Children's Leukaemia Research. Michael always travels to see a first production, even if miles away, an also goes to several others around the country as he believes in keeping in touch with what the players and audiences want. When writing, he loves and finds fascinating the research, and tries to cater for all Drama group sizes and venues. He has received favourable reviews in the amateur Stage magazine, been 'Playwright of the Month' on the Internet aMDRaM, has appeared in local and national press, been on radio as a guest speaker and run Drama workshops. He has also written anastasia, a musical based on the legendary Russia Royal Duchess, adapted aesops Fables for primary schools and written another new fairytale, 'The Survivor Ring' about fairies and witches, for junior Drama. Primarily, he intends to continue writing pantomimes as he loves the fun, romance and laughter that everyone can enjoy. Michael is considered an international playwright, as not only are his pantomimes performed throughout Great Britain, but many are now performed abroad - an indication that the world now enjoys the delights of British Pantomime as excellent family fun entertainment - OH YeS IT IS!
