Field Day, The

Synopsis:
Alan and his wife, Jackie, are taking a camping holiday in Cornwall this year as the recession means they can't afford go abroad. Eugene and Wendy are hikers who stay the night at the campsite. Gaia is camped nearby in her campervan and catches Alan's roving eye which Jackie resents. The farmer who owns the campsite observes all. Extracts on my website.

Notes:
A two act play, lasting 90 minutes, which can be set as simply or as realistically as you wish. The first production was on a small stage, but it could easily be set with minimal staging, on the floor, in the semi round or even outdoors. All that is required are two tents and props. And a roll of fake grass sets the scene nicely. It would suit a touring company as the entire set could fit into a small van or a large car.

Sandcastles

Synopsis:
A black comedy set at the seaside, the play explores the relationships within a family as they enjoy life on a beach holiday. Bert's constant riling of his long suffering wife, Lily, and his daughter, Susan, comes to a head after revelations from a fortune teller. Bert has a disturbing dream which exposes secrets from the past. Susan reveals her true self as she flirts with a candy floss seller and Punch and Judy man from the pier. Extracts on my website.

Notes:
The two act play lasting 90 minutes is set in front of a beach hut, with two deck chairs. A pile of damp sand is required for building a sand castle during the performance. The play could tour easily with a small collapsible hut. The play was originally set in the late 1950's, with northern accents, but can be adapted to suit. Five of the characters play doubled parts in a dream sequence.
