Edgar Chias was born in Mexico City in 1973 and studied theatre at the UNAM. He is a playwright, actor, theatre critic and translator. His plays are performed throughout Mexico and include Circopara bobos, El cielo en la piel, El drama Ausente, Telefonemos and Crack. His play De insomnio y media noche (On Insomnia and Midnight) was chosen as a co-production between the Royal Court Theatre, Centro Cultural Heldmco, the Festival Internacional Cervantino and was first produced in London, Guanajuato and Mexico City in September/October 2006. In 2007 he won the Oscar Liera Prize for the Best Contemporaiy Play for both Crack and On Insomnia and Midnight.
