1938 Hitler Takes Vienna

1938 Hitler Takes Vienna
Late in the evening on 11 March, 1938, a man sits in a Jewish bar in Vienna as the German army invades Austria. The other guests flee - as does the owner - but he remains to contemplate his past and his future: bleak though that may be. After five years of ranting Hitler has crossed over. He's returned home. He's returned to his native land. Hitler the Austrian - the German leader - is marching home with a grey, grim army. Is this the start of a new war?

Mandrake

Mandrake
Callimaco wants Lucrezia: Lucrezia is married to Sir Nicia. Sir Nicia wants children. Ligurio wants to please both Callimaco and Sir Nicia. But what happiness can Lucrezia find? And Siro, the unpaid servant, how can he turn things to his advantage? It's about marriage, lust, adultery, corruption and deceit - all aided by the Mandrake Infusion. Machiavelli's comedy is one of the landmarks of the Italian Renaissance - it marks the break with Medieval drama and is the forerunner of Shakespeare's comedies. It played to packed houses in the Florence of the Medici; in Venice it was so popular that the audience overwhelmed the stage and made it impossible to complete. And it has remained popular ever since.

Overcoat, The

Overcoat, The
Bashmachkin's desperate struggle with poverty in a society defined by possessions is particularly resonant in the midst of Britain's current economic climate, and with his scrupulous and scathing realism as well as philosophical depth, Gogol is still considered one of the greatest ever satirists. the company offers a faithful and culturally authentic interpretation of Nikolai Gogol's absurdist satire, one of Russia's most important texts, which has inspired Russian writers from Nabokov to Dostoyevsky

Trojan Women

Trojan Women
Troy has fallen. The city has been destroyed and its people slaughtered. The few survivors are prisoners of the Greek Army which is waiting to sail back to Greece. The army is disintegrating in the wake of its victory, but the killing continues. The fate of the prisoners hangs in the balance. Based on Seneca's adaptation of Euripides' play, Nameless Theatre's production of Trojan Women is about people living under the shadow of death, the morality of revenge and the hypocrisy of war.
