        Pandora's Cage

Pandora's Cage

Synopsis:
based on the controversial lab creation of a superbug, the H5N1 flu virus that may cause the worst pandemic in history. Last year, for the first time ever, the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity voted to censor key details, and their decision was unanimous. In this three-character play, a woman scientist on that Board gets abducted. She thinks her captor is a bioterrorist until he locks her into a cell with "Danny boy," a geek who works for big pharma. the company orders him to get the superbug formula from her so they can develop a vaccine against it and earn billions, but Dan and Dr. Claudia Isaacson turn out to be an odd couple. Relationships become personal as the conflict heats up, which humanizes the pressure-cooker plot and gives it a comedic valve. Rigid opinions change. Is torture really an option? Can the pair escape? Freedom is more than a physical matter as issues of responsibility, loyalty, guilt, and love come into play. After an actress on stage and screen read Pandora's Cage, here is part of what she wrote: "the play is in terrific shape: beautifully paced and structured, terrific line-by-line dialogue, salted with humor, high stakes
