Rasmus Berg a peasant's son returns to his village after three years at university in Copenhagen. He has Latinised his name and become a pedant and an intellectual snob. He looks down on his family and friends - shows off his knowledge, convinces them that a parsnip is Jesus and that Adam had a navel. But he goes too far when he tells them that the world is round
