Synopsis:
Written and directed by Stevens, Ape has been developed with his co-performers Julian Maynard Smith (Station House Opera) and Amanda Hadingue (Stan's Cafe). Ape introduces a condition that renders the three interdependent. Tied to one another through an imperative to copy and assimilate each other's behaviour, they do not have distinct and individual lives. They have no autonomy of thought and yet they strive to establish separate identities through fabrication and superficial differences.

Synopsis:
Imagine living in a very differnet age from our own gas-guzzlinfg era. Perhaps a time after some eco-catastrophe? How could someone explain to you what the West Midlands was like from the late late 1950s onwards? Stan's Cafe has a go with this strange, compelling show, powered by the stories of those who have lived in Birmingham and worked in the motor industry - and also by cycling (which is generated by the cast's often exaustive peddling.
- Lyn Gardner, Guardian.
