Bonaventure

Synopsis:
a flood in the Fen country has trapped two prison officials and their prisoner, Sarat Carp, who is on her way to the gallows for the murder of her brother. In spite of the evidence, Sister Mary Bonaventure is certain of Sarat's innocence. She uncovers a hitherto unknown connection between Sarat's friend Dr Jeffries and a woman for whose death Sarat's brother had been responsible. Just before the police launch arrives, a confession is forced from the real murderer. Period 1950s

Uncertain Joy

Synopsis:
Stephen and Barbary Leigh come across nine year old Tod in the library. they take the youngster under their wing even though Barbary does not like the youngster. Tod's violent Father beats him and then has to leave for America before the police catch up with him. Stephen and Barbary arrange to adopt Tod - although Barbary is not willing. Tod gets into some scrape with the neighbours and Stephen is forced to chastise him severally. Tod seemingly runs away. His Father returns with a dubious woman he has married. He makes threats to Stephen if his son is not returned. Tod who has been hiding in the house overhears and agrees to go with his father. Later he returns in a bedraggled state - followed by the police. His Father has been murdered and the police think Tod was responsible.
