archie Hind was born in Glasgow on June 3rd 1928. His father was a violent alcoholic - beating both his son and wife. archie was forced to leave school early to get money for his father's drinking habit. In World War Two he was called up and served in the Medical Corps in Singapore and Ceylon. after the War he decided to become a writer and was accepted into Newbattle Abbey College. He married eleanor Swain and they were together for 56 years until his death. they had two daughters and three sons - though one son Gavin died in a car crash when he was 21. archie died from cancer on February 21st 2008
