| Synopsis: | A combination of cinematic and theatrical techniques and the music of Pachelbel's Canon for Strings underpins a direct and unusual narrative. The death of his wife causes Charles to abandon God and the Church to become a teacher of Classics. He is left with the responsibility for bringing up his daughter Amy, a child of rare beauty and delicacy. He is not well suited to this task and is savagely derided by Kevin, a young groundsman at his school, who is earthily pragmatic and fascinated by Amy's compliant innocence, which he plans to exploit. The story is told on a shifting time scale and reaches an unlooked for climax. | |||||
