Sarah McDonald's writing credits for Monkeywood include: Last Orders, Maine Road and a Song For the Lovers. She has been commissioned by BBC Radio 4, Paines Plough and action Transport Theatre and has had work produced at Theatres including Contact, the Lowry and the Royal exchange. Sarah has collectively written a number of plays for action Transport Theatre including Night Train and Scratches in the earth. Her short play the Tree was shortlisted for Theatre Centre's adrienne Benham award 2009 and Maine Road was highly commended in the BBC's Alfred Bradley Bursary award 2009. She is currently part of North West Vision & Media's DRaFTeD scheme, writing her first screenplay.

I want to go back to Manchester where theres shops and proper streets with pavements and Nana and Man City and aSDa and Mum Inspired by and in conversation with the Royal exchange productions of TWO by Jim Cartwright and the GaTeKeePeR by Chloe Moss, 20 young people have been working with director andrew Barry and writer Sarah McDonald-Hughes to investigate the notion of the North. the result is a brand new performance piece set in the Museum of the North which is a lively inquiry into identity, stereotyping, shared values, individuality and what it means to live in the North.
