Helen is originally from the UK. She trained under John Wright where she gained a Ba Honours in Performing Arts at Middlesex University, London, before furthering her training for 2 years at the Jacques Lecoq School in Paris. Since then, she has been acting, writing and directing in the UK and South Africa and has a passion for original and creative work. Helen started performing as a teenager with the Birmingham Rep Youth Theatre (agamemnon). Past Theatre credits include She'll be Coming Round the Mountain (John Wright), D'artagnan in Les Trois Mousquetaires (Theatre Sans Frontieres), Somebody To Love (Blow Up Theatre), and most recently, Grimm Tales (the Market Theatre, JohAnnesburg). In 2002, Helen moved to South Africa where she and husband James Cuningham formed Fresco Theatre Company. Together, they have created many original theatrical hits. Helen & James co-devised and performed in Baobabs Don't Grow Here, directed by Sylvaine Strike, which toured extensively for three years throughout Southern Africa and Europe, gathering multiple awards & nominations, including nominations for Total Theatre award and the Stage award for acting excEllence at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2002. Helen also co-devised and performed in Wood For the Trees, a commission for the 2005 National Arts Festival, South AfricA. as a director, Helen has co-created eight new South African plays. Credits include Fortunately for the Market Theatre (2001), De Wets Dream, Black & Blue, Two For the Price of One, Tom, Dick or Harry, electric Juju, & Jutro.

Synopsis:
a love story of a Gypsy couple whose naive passion and desire to have a baby leads them to travel across the Sahara to South Africa, to find the potent, legendary Baobab tree. a poignant tragi-comedy, the play deals with cultural clashes and examines our sense of belonging in the world.
