La Manajata Bequixed

Synopsis:
From the abandoned piers of Hoboken circa 1995, Juanita Gutierrez contemplates a momentous decision. Working as a psychologist in a Manhattan hospital, she's at an advantage over the majority of her co-workers, most of whom represent the poor Latino community she grew up in. Now their workers' union is about to go on strike and Juanita must make the choice to either keep her career status quo, or join in the struggle. among the aggrieved, her best friend, Mary Turner, an unemployed programmer, helps Juanita to recall the days when they were both young, in love and politically inspired by their mentors; Juanita with Sancho, a union organizer and Mary with Don Quick, an eloquent Spanish professor whose politics eventually forced him to disappear. against a colorful backdrop of gangsters, corrupt cops, a Walt Whitman inspired poet and a poetic homeless woman, La Manajata Bequixed is a partially surreal tale that illuminates the struggle and inherent beauty of the common folk.
