Synopsis:
From the outset, everyone thought that Tobias was a lovely boy with loads of promise: his friends; his Primary School teachers- and most of all his Mum, Caroline. But by the time he reaches adulthood he has been arrested, sectioned and treated in a medium secure mental health unit. What went wrong? Other traces Tobias's life in reverse: from the point at which he is arrested and sectioned, right back to the moment of his birth. We see Tobias with his friends, his grandFather at a family party, and most of all with his single parent mother Caroline. We see him move backwards from the hospital setting where he has ended up, to his appearance in court, to his time in secondary school and back finally to his childhood and birth. the play examines the moments in Tobias's life when people could have intervened, but didn't, with the result that his mental health deteriorates and we see a promising child lose all hope and ambition. the play asks: Does it have to be like this for young people of dual heritage?
