I'm a Yale graduate and have a Masters in Shakespearean Studies from the Shakespeare Institute of the University of Birmingham (england). I was the head of development and post-production supervisor for producer Dean Silvers on "Spanking the Monkey," "Flirting With Disaster," Manny & Lo," and "Wigstock: the Movie." they went to and were award winners at the Sundance (three of them), CAnnes, Berlin, and avignon Film Festivals and were put out by New Line, Miramax, Sony, and Samuel Goldwyn. I've worked in reality television, helping develop a Sony show ("Russian Roulette," at one time in 30 countries around the world) and sold a show to endemol (makers of "Fear Factor" and "Big Brother"). I've also written and produced Theatre, and my plays have been up for or won 17 awards and had productions in NYC (Lark Theatre, Silverwhale, and Love Creek), La (the Met and Sacred Fools), in Boston, at UCSD and Yale University. I've also had readings at Playwrights Horizons, eST, theatricum Botanicum, the Unknown Theatre, the Hudson, and as part of edge Fest. "Dead Lawyers" has twice been in development as a film. I was on the Board of Directors at the Met Theatre, one of La longest running Theatres, and was Literary Manager there and at Sacred Fools in LA. In 2008, JaC will publish my award winning Grimm series of darker, odder adaptations of the Grimm stories. My latest project is gathering work from Iraqi writers to show their perspective on life there now. I've had a number of staged readings of their work and some terrific press. http://www.asalark.com/iraq.php I also approached the Grasslands Review, the literary journal of Indiana State about the project, and they plan to publish several of the stories in 2008. I have a short promo on line for it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FilKabn1LQg You can find out more about me at www.asalark.com. there are also reviews of my plays at www.asalark.com/reviews.php

Baghdad Prom, The

Synopsis:
For the past five years, I've been getting in touch with writers and artists in Baghdad and getting their stories about what's going on now. We've heard from our media, government, pundits, and even soldiers, but we've heard almost nothing from the Iraqis themselves. I've gotten amazing stories of life there, both fiction and non-fiction, of kidnapping, robbery, murder, and forbidden love. they've also written to me what it was and what it is now like to be an artist there, and how dangerous that was and still is. I've adapted their writing into this play.

Notes:
Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FilKabn1LQg I've had developmental readings At theatricum Botanicum, the Unknown theatre, eST, And At the Actor's Studio At the Tannery in Newburyport, Ma. eDGe FeST, A premiere La festival of edgier material, selected it for their 2007 show. I've gotten some terrific press from the readings. Check out http://www.asalark.com/iraq.php for more details on that.

Naked Holidays '09

Synopsis:
Originally conceived by the Sacred Fools theater Company of Los Angeles, Naked Holidays is a darkly comic Yuletide bacchanalia fit for Samson himself. George Larkin's opening is a boisterous reaction to some of the most popular holiday images; delving into the hilarious customs of our best loved winter holidays, and the pagan traditions celebrated nowadays as Christmas. Yet not even the Olympics delivers like this multicultural melange which climaxes in a scantily clad routine that looks a lot like Christmas. This year's medley showcases new works that explore deadly plots by Santa's eight angry reindeer against Rudolph and Rudnick (oh yes, Rudnick), a traditional Jewish nativity scene, a wholesome dad hiding a suspiciously jolly body bag, a belligerently randy hooker working the North Pole, and a bone-crunching table-smashing romp with everybody's favorite rotund holiday hero the aNNIHILaTORRRR*8212;yes, all in one evening of theater.

Combined, there are 30 one acts that range from high, silly comedy to dark, deep Drama. Some are as short as a few pages and others as long as twenty. Combined, the Grimm shows were nominated for nine prestigious L.a. Weekly awards for best writer, director, and actor. they also received three Backstage West honorable mention Garlands and got fantastic reviews. the first show was a Backstage West Critic's Pick, all three were recommended by the L.a. Weekly, and the Los Angeles Times recommended the third and raved that "George Larkin's third slate of adult takes on tales by folklore's cautionary brothers is a vivacious volume earmarked by wry designs and spry playing", "Grown up Grimm pulls no punches," and that its "vicious and hystErical," hilarious," "riveting," and its "energy abounds"
