Nationality:    British
email:    n/a     Website:    n/a

Literary Agent:    Macnaughton Representation

Lionel Frederick Lonsdale was born on February 5th 1881 in St Helier, Jersey. He was a soldier and then worked for the London and South Western Railway. He tried to get a break through playwriting but this did not come until his wife who was a chorus girl persuaded her employer to read his work. His first success was "the King Of Cadonia" a ruritanian musical. then after several flops he rewrote "the King of Cadonia" reversing the roles and that became "the Balkan Princess". He wrote the books for many more musicals with varying degrees of success - most successful being "the Maid Of the Mountains". He then turned to writing comedies and had many hits - the most famous being "the Last Of Mrs Cheney". He died on April 4th 1954 from a heart attack.

Monsieur Beaucaire

Monsieur Beaucaire
the son of the King of France is in Bath posing as a barber, M Beaucaire. At cards one night he realises that the Duke of Winterset is cheating and challenges him. Winterset threatens to kill him but Beaucaire points out that not only have the servants seen what has happened but also the nobleman Molyneaux (who knows his true identity). Winterset says that if Beaucaire keeps quiet he will take him to Lady Mary's ball. At the ball Beaucaire asks Lady Mary for the rose she has in her hair - but she says he must earn it - by escorting an aged countess. Winterset gets Captain Badger a renowned swordsman to pick a fight with Beaucaire. To everyone's surprise the barber wins the fight. He escorts the countess and wins the rose
