Originally from Sydney, Richard began his theatre career at Marian St Theatre and the Genesian Theatre. He graduated from the Acting Course at NIDA in 1987. Career Highlights include Romeo and Juliet (Sydney Theatre Co), A Midsummer Nights Dream (for both the Original Shakespeare Co. from London and Deckchair Theatre), The Sky Wizard (Theatre of Image), Colours of Desire (Theatre of Image), Too Young For Ghosts (State theatre of WA), Munjong (State theatre of WA), Escapaids (WA Youth Theatre), Frankenstein's Children (Deckchair), The Butterflies of Kalimantan (Theatre Kimberley) and Corrugation Road (Black Swan). Richard was a founding member of HEATworks - Health Education and Theatre Works - at the Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service, Broome. Here he wrote three one-act plays and directed ten touring productions of these plays to remote Aboriginal Communities, prisons, schools, and festivals. He has also worked as an Assistant Director (Sydney Theatre Co), Artistic Director (Darwin Theatre Co) and an Associate Director (Black Swan) including productions of Miracle City, The Cherry Orchard, Mamu, Karratha Shorts and The Drawer Boy. He was also stage manager and later tour manager/assitant director on two national tours of Bran Nue Dae. Richard wrote Welcome To Broome (Black Swan & Company B. Belvoir) and Red Alert (Deckchair). He has taught extensively for WAAPA's Aboriginal Theatre Program in Broome and MT Lawley.

Welcome To Broome

Synopsis:
the lives of the inhabitants of Broome both European and Aboriginal Australians. Welcome To Broome follows the break down of an inter-racial relationship in Broome, WA. Chrissy and Rob have a small child and are finding it increasingly difficult to find common ground. Into this conflict arrives Ferris, Rob's muso, drinking, highly sex-charged mate from Sydney and Carl, a Swiss-German visitor with AIDS, who has come to Broome to die with his best friend, Sarah, who is away at her father's funeral in Brisbane.
