Jacques Lusseyran was 16 when the second world war broke out. He was also blind, but when France was occupied by the Nazis his blindness didn't stop him setting up a resistance group. Nor did it stop him after the war, becoming a university professor, despite unrepealed laws passed by the Vichy regime that forbade blind people holding public office.
