Chris Paling's writing career began with a The Silent Dancer, a Morning Story on BBC Radio 4. He followed this with Way Station, a Thirty Minute Theatre, after which he took to writing novels. His first, After The Raid, was praised by Nick Hornby, Jonathan Coe and Giles Foden. Since then, he has written eight more. His latest, Nimrod's Shadow (Portobello Books), is a thriller concerning an Edwardian painter wrongly accused of murder. He has always loved the theatre and from a young age was involved with The Allestree Theatre Group, a local amateur dramatic group co-founded by his father. He is married with two children and lives in Brighton.

Final Test, The
Peter and Ruth have had a long and happy marriage. Or so Peter believes. They both have their own interests  he loves listening to the cricket on the radio, she likes to travel. But all is not well as Peter discovers one afternoon when hes dozing in his deckchair and listening to the final test from The Oval. His wife announces that she has sold the house from under him and shes moving to the coast with her lover. When the new owners move in later that day they discover they have more than they bargained for: an elderly, cricket-loving squatter who refuses to move out of their garden.

Notes:
The Final Test is the first stage play by highly-acclaimed novelist Chris Paling. Its a touching and poignant comedy about marriage, cricket, and the dangerous lure of Bexhill-on-Sea.
