Art Of Memory         Down Here Below         Exit Cuckoo         To The Bone

Art Of Memory

Synopsis:
Weaving together text, Butoh dance, and original music, Art of Memory is an examination of the mind and how it stores knowledge in the body. Four librarians trapped in a fantastical library search for an exit and create elaborate physical games that explore memory and illusion in Tanya Calamoneri's stark atmosphEric performance. As the shifting nature of time threatens the librarians' fragile sense of logic, they seamlessly inhabit the roles of handless maidens, the Bronte sisters, an ill wind, and minor deities. Comedic and dark by turns, the piece employs books, children's games, alchemy and questions of being as it traverses internal landscapes of memory. Inspired by Frances Yeats' Art of Memory, the text is both original, and collaged from Luis Borges' the Library of Babel, Grimm's Fairytales, and Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights.

To The Bone

Synopsis:
TO THE BONE, by Lisa Ramirez is a contemporary American drama written in the tradition of John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men, which gives the audience a close up look into the lives of the invisible work force that puts food on our tables. The play examines the very nature of equality and justice in contemporary America through the eyes of five Central American women whose migration to the U.S. in search of a better life brings its own test of the human spirit. Ramirez spent six months interviewing immigrant poultry workers in the Catskills of upstate New York.

Notes:
Nominated for The Kilroys 2015. The Kilroys is a group of playwrights and producers in LA who publish an annual industry survey of excellent new plays by female and trans playwrights. It is a tool for producers committed to ending the systemic underrepresentation of female and trans playwrights in the American theater.
