Alex Riad was born and raised in Campbell, CA, a suburb in the San Francisco Bay Area. He left to study English and Theatre at Wells College in Upstate New York, where he frequently wrote and workshopped his original work. Alex also spent a semester abroad in Bath, England, studying under English playwright James Graham-Brown, one of his most important writing influences and teachers. While in England, Alex wrote, produced, and starred in an absurdist play, Where She Hangs at the Rondo Theatre in Bath. Another play he wrote, Killing Charlie, was shortlisted for The Rondo Theatre's New Writing Festival 2011. In 2011, Alex took part in LAByrinth Theater Company's Intensive Ensemble, a week of master classes under the instruction of LAB company members, including Padraic Lillis and Stephen Adly Guirgis. Mr. Lillis and Mr. Guirgis have been huge supporters and mentors for Alex. Additionally, he still works with many of his fellow classmates from the Intensive and other dedicated theatre artists whom he has met since volunteering at LAB. Today, Alex is a proud resident of Washington Heights in New York City. His most recent production was his one act play When You Go, which he wrote alongside plays by Lindsay Joy and Charlotte Miller in a production entitled Zurich, NY produced by Andrew Justin Smith and the Essential Theatre Group at The Tank Theater in May 2014. He also produced a workshop production of his play Standbys at the Cabrini Repertory Theater's 2013 Thespis Festival. He also has had readings at the Cherry Lane Theater and Labyrinth Theater Company's Bank Street Theater, most notably a three night reading series at Bank Street made up of five of his plays in March 2013 entitled, A Few Plays by Alex Riad.
