Death of Chatterton, The

Synopsis:
'The Death of Chatterton' by Henry Wallis hangs in the Tate Gallery and is a depiction of the suicide of the young romantic poet. It was modeled by the writer George Meredith who was at the time married to Mary Ellen.Waliis fell in love with her.They eloped to Italy.The play tells of their time in Capri, of the relationship between Wallis and an actor Tome Cleland and of how Mary encourages Wallis to reject the past and to look to the future.

Nose, The

Synopsis:
Adaptation of Gogols short story. Kovalyov, a pompous civil servant, wakes one morning to discover that his nose has disappeared. Ivan, his barber, finds the missing proboscis in a breakfast roll. A civil servant cannot exist without a nose. For a barber nose theft is punished by exile in Siberia. Both men must swiftly remedy their plight. To make matters worse the nose itself is seen walking the streets and parks of St Petersburg.

Overcoat, The

Synopsis:
Akaky, an impoverished clerk reluctantly invests in a new overcoat which changes his life. Unfortunately the coat is stolen by ruffians. Receiving to help from the authorities in recovering the coat Akaky falls into a fever and dies. His ghost seeks revenge.
