True Amazon Adventures Of Roger Casement

True Amazon Adventures Of Roger Casement

Synopsis:
The True Amazon Adventures of Roger Casement is based on the true story of a sex diary that condemned one of Ireland's greatest sons to death. It's 1916, and after a distinguished career with the British Foreign Office investigating atrocities in the rubber plantations of the Amazon, Sir Roger Casement has joined the Irish Revolt against British colonialism. Charged with treason, the popular humanitarian could receive life imprisonment, but the British fear his influence and want him to hang. They need to turn public opinion against him. Some Irish nationalists still believe that what followed was the 20th century's greatest attempt at character assassination, putting Heffernan's attempt on Michael Kirby to shame: the British government claimed to have found Casement's so-called 'Black Diaries' which are filled with details of sexual conquests among the young men of the Amazon. Even today, the questions remain: Did someone in the British government forge the diaries in Casement's name? Were the Black Diaries a cynical smear campaign in a world where a homosexual hero was unthinkable? And if so, who exactly was responsible for writing the amazing adventures of an intrepid sex explorer?
