Antony Sher is an actor, author and artist. He trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. His work at the National includes Primo (winner of both New York Outer Critic's Circle and Drama Desk awards as Outstanding Solo Performance), True West, Stanley, for which he won an Olivier Award for Best Actor, Uncle Vanya, the Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, and Titus Andronicus (in a co-production with Market Theatre, Johannesburg) for which he won a TMA Best Actor Award. For the RSC: Othello, the Roman Actor, the Malcontent, Macbeth, the Winter's Tale, Cyrano de Bergerac, Travesties, Tamburlaine the Great, Singer, Hello and Goodbye, the Revenger's Tragedy, the Merchant of Venice, Richard Ill, for which he won Olivier and Evening Standard Best Actor awards, Red Noses, Maydays, Tartuffe, Moliere and King Lear, his own play l.D. at the Almeida; Mahier's Conversion at the Aldwych; Torch Song Trilogy, for which he won an Olivier Award for Best Actor, at the Albery; Goosepimples at Hampstead and the Garrick, and Kean at the Apollo Theatre and tour. Television includes: Primo, Home, Macbeth, the Jury, Genghis Cohen, the History Man. Film includes: Mrs Brown (Peter Sellers Evening Standard Film Award), Shakespeare in Love, Alive and Kicking, the Young Poisoner's Handbook Writing includes: the stage plays l.D. and Primo; the novels Middlepost, the Indoor Boy, Cheap Live, the Feast~ the Theatre journals Year of the King, Woza Shakespeare! (co-writtern with Gregory Doran), Primo Time; an autobiography Beside MyseIf~ the BBC TV film Changing Step; the ChAnnel 4 documentary Murder Most Foul (co-written with Jon Blair); and a book of his drawings and paintings Characters. He has held exhibitions of his paintings and drawings at the Barbican (1985), the National Theatre (1996) and the London Jewish Cultural Centre (2007). He has honorary doctorates from the universities of Liverpool, Exeter and Warwick and is an Associate Artist of the RSC. In 2000 he was knighted for services to acting and writing.

Synopsis:
the true story of how Demetrios Tsafendas came to assassinate Hendrik Verwoerd, President of South Africa and the chief architect of Apartheid. Of mixed parentage, but classified as "White", Tsafendas is unable to marry the woman he loves because she is classified as "Coloured". Sickened by this injustice and goaded by his monstrous alter ego, Tsafendas stabs Verwoerd on the floor of the House in full view of his wife, his bodyguard and a chamber full of MPs
