Shunt is a London-based performance collective and was founded in 1998. Most of the co-founders of Shunt met at Central School of Speech and Drama in London on the Advanced Theatre Practice MA in 1997/1998, which specialises in collaborative practice. In summer 1998 Shunt's final term show 'Twist' was taken to Hill Street Theatre for the Edinburgh Festival under the company name Stephanie's Fridge. The members of the company at that time were David Rosenberg, Lizzie Clachan, Louise Mari, Mischa Twitchin, Gisele Edwards, Su Jin Lee, Laura, Catherine Bowman Shaw, Kirsty Yuill, Hannah Ringham, Serena Bobowski, Gemma Brockis and Heather Uprichard. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shunt_(theatre_company)

Amato Saltone

Synopsis:
the show 'Amato Saltone' in which the company were joined by performers Ryo Yoshida, Nigel Barrett, Geneva Foster Gluck, Simon Kane, Tom Lyall, Jason Barnet and Rebecca Kilgariff. Amato Saltone was inspired by the work of Cornell Woolrich (1903-1968), the father of film noir, who, for over 35 years, fed the pulp magazines with countless stories of steamy mystery fiction. Films made of his work include Hitchock's Rear Window and Truffaut's The Bride Wore Black.

Ballad of Bobby Francois,the

Synopsis:
On 12 October 1972 a Fairchild F-227 chartered by an amateur rugby team left Uruguay for Santiago in Chile. Shortly before Christmas two emaciated young men staggered down from a high plateau in the Andes to announce that they were survivors of a plane which had crashed seventy days before. Shunt puts the scrum on the grill to reconsider the etiquette of survival and the awkward implications of cannibalism in polite society. Performed in a railway arch beneath London Bridge station, this is a wild, imaginative, production that veers between outrageous humour and the macabre. Critics Choice Time Out. Total Theatre and Herald Angel awards.

Boy Who Climbed Out of His Face, The

Synopsis:
Staged in a complex made of shipping containers on a jetty near The O2 (its actually a new arts venture called The Jetty), The Boy. . . is essentially a succession of surreal encounters in a succession of different rooms. I doubt its a comparison either party would appreciate, but it comes across as a bit like the mad, crack-addled uncle to the wholesome Bum Bum Train: each room you step into is a fabulously detailed new world, but one in which everything seems to have gone drastically wrong. Most of the performers you encounter wear horrifying latex masks, at least two sections are actively terrifying, and theres a concerted effort to make things feel as awkward for the audience as possible. - http://www.timeout.com/london/theatre/the-boy-who-climbed-out-of-his-face

Fiction

Synopsis:
You are invited to a lecture. You know that the subject is probably important and it would be useful to hear what the speaker has to say but you can't keep your eyes open. You will fall asleep and you will dream. But you won't be alone in your dream; everyone else will be there with you. And you will have a chaperone who knows the landscape and will attend to you. So nothing can go wrong. . .unless...no...just close your eyes. Fiction is the second performance by Glen Neath and David Rosenberg using binaural sound and absolute darkness. It is an anxious journey through the sprawling architecture of our dreams and an exercise in empathy. Or is it an opportunity to have a 60 minute nap

Joan's Lebanese Party

Synopsis:
Shunt Founder Member Andrew Rutland along with the help of some other Shunt artists launches his new Supper Club. Between 1963 and 1984, Joan and her then third husband travelled to all the exotic corners of the globe savoring all the culinary delights on offer. During her two year stay in Beirut, the then Paris of The Middle East, she became great friends with Governor Emile Yanni and his entourage who were well known at the time for their extravagant soirees. Tonight in the kitchen we have Mahmoud Mallah, the grandson of the Governor's personal chef, cooking a true Lebanese feast. After dinner music supplied by Jonny Trunk: musical archeologist recently returned from his Middle Eastern dig. There will be shisha smoking, backgammon, cocktails, late night dancing and whole roasted lambs. Joan always dressed impeccably. Making an effort is compulsory for all our guests. A tie is required for the gentleman.

Pink Orthodox

Synopsis:
Pink Orthodox is an impersonator, a stripteaser, a black sheep and a sore thumb. He is a man who realised that he could make people laugh by playing with his ringlets and revealing the contents of his pockets. Addicted to the laughter, he reaches further into his mind to find humiliating memories for the delight of the crowd. As he considers the comic potential of being consumed by fire, we wonder "how far is this man prepared to go and is it safe to go with him?"

Tropicana

Synopsis:
the journey occupies roughly three stages. Apparently descending in a lift, we are ushered into a dusty, cage-filled room where a menacing figure announces, "I'm a dog trapped in the spirit of a man," and warns of impending dangers. We then move into what looks like a looted wine-cellar where surreal images emerge out of almost total darkness: a horizontal elevator floats past, feathered showgirls loom out of the gloom, disembodied feet pass by. Eventually we glimpse a hearse on which the entertainers dance acrobatically. After a brief interval, in which beer is dispensed from the hearse's coffin - irresistibly reminding me of Some Like it Hot - we get to sit in a sepulchral operating theatre. Here we are confronted by the corpse of the lift-attendant who brought us down. A team of mock doctors probe his innards with indecent glee, hacking their way through the bones and viscera before producing one or two surprising objects. Finally, we are invited to drink at the Tropicana bar before being released into the reassuring bustle of London Bridge. - Michael Billington, Guardian
