| Synopsis: | a forgotten episode of American history that took place almost exactly two hundred years ago. Gabriel Prosser, a 24-year-old slave on a tobacco plantation in Virginia, led a thousand-man uprising against the White population, only to have it end in ruins amid a horrendous rain storm. There was also treachery in the ranks: betrayal by a fellow slave named Pharoah led to the capture of Gabriel's brother and then his own arrest. Martin Denton, nytheatre.com | |||||
