Mark Stubbings is a playwright/actor based in Edmonton, Alberta. His plays have been read and produced at various theatres in Alberta and in British Columbia including Work Shop West, Western Edge Theatre, Theatre Network's NextFest, Alberta Playwrights Network, The Walterdale Playhouse, The University of Alberta, The University of the Fraser Valley and the Edmonton International Fringe Festival. His play Dry the Rain was recently produced at Western Edge Theatre in Nanaimo, B.C. following a highly successful run at Work Shop West Theatre in Edmonton. It was nominated for two Elizabeth Sterling Haynes awards for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding New Play in 2010. That same year Dry the Rain was shortlisted for the Gwen Ringwood Pharis Award for Drama by the Writers Guild of Alberta. Dry the Rain is currently slated for production at Theatre on the Square for its American premiere in Indianapolis, Indiana for their 2014/15 season. Other plays include Dust (Winner of the Alberta Playwriting Competition, 2003), Our Kind of Love is an Ugly Love (Sterling nomination for Outstanding New Work for a Fringe Play, 2007) Wedding Ruiner and Bromance (which sold out its entire run at the 2012 Edmonton International Fringe Festival).He studied playwriting under the guidance of Vern Thiessen at the University of Alberta and was a member Work Shop West's Playwright's unit in 2007 - 2008. He currently works as a box office supervisor at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta.

Beaver Effect, The
Two young filmmakers trying to secure funding for their latest sci-fi opus come up against a by the numbers administrator at the "Canadian Film Society". In this dark comedy, questions of Canadian identity, the film business and what kind of "art" deserves public funding are explored. The Beaver Effect is a one act dark comedy full of Mounties, Beavers and a foul-mouthed wit.

Bromance

Synopsis:
An art lover and a party lover went in to business with each other. Butch and Marcel own a night club together where Marcel stages art installations and Butch DJ's and fucks his past away. When Haley walks in to their lives Butch and Marcel have to re-evaluate their friendship, art and the true meaning of the word "party". A full-length comedy for the artists and douche bags in us all.

Dry the Rain

Synopsis:
Clayton and Agnes Bridges have recently been consigned to a retirement home. With Clayton's broken hip and failing memory, Agnes is getting used to the idea of this being their final resting place. But you either go out like a Lion or out like a Lamb and Clayton isn't finished yet. And when their newly assigned caregiver David does his best to help them in their "Twilight years" all hell breaks loose. A full-length drama about family, aging and perseverance against the time we have left.

Dust

Synopsis:
Alex, Jake and Hugh have been driving hearses for as long as they can remember. Gallows humor is the only kind they know. Fran Chews

Synopsis:
Leonard Mulligan is a man of particular tastes. Taco Bell, horror movies and tomato juice are among his greatest passions. These all become eclipsed when he meets the love of his life, Fran Matthews. Told in fragmented segments, Leonard's tragic tale of love lost, Risk and Star Trek conventions culminates in a dastardly revenge scheme that anyone who has ever been broken hearted can identify with. A one-act "unromantic comedy" about the fear of being alone.

In the Dog House

Synopsis:
Two escaped prisoners, chained together have gone on the lam. Desperate, hungry and lonely they struggle to keep one step ahead of the dogs and police officers that pursue them. The trick is that one of them is a girl and the other is a boy. And they have a lot more in common then they would like to admit. A one-act comedy about love, fried chicken, supermarket sweeps and the things that keep us together when we really just want to stay apart.

Stars and Sons

Synopsis:
Clara, a fifteen year old girl who dreams of going to outer space and Charlie, a troubled thirty four year old auto mechanic meet in a late night truck stop. Over a series of encounters Charlie and Clara find that loneliness can bring even the most unlikely people together. But the universe is hard on the little things and when Clara's nightmares begin to come true and Charlie can't get over a loss from the past they are both set adrift. A one-act drama about absentee parents, unrequited love and the emptiness between it all.

Wedding Ruiner, The

Synopsis:
On that special day, when a man and a woman profess their love for each other in the presence of their families and loved ones. Megan Carver will be there&to RUIN it. For a price she will do the dirty work and ruin any wedding you object to but don't have the nerve to do your self. When a "ruin" goes wrong with a dangerous client and Megan meets a misguided poet who has been trailing her, the severity of her business becomes clear and she has to rely on her new friend to survive.
