Ms. Amstel has served as Writer-in Residence at Nimrod, Sydney in 1983 and was associated with the Australian Film and Television School in 1984 and TN Theatre Company, Brisbane, in 1985. She holds current memberships in NIDA Playwrights Studio and the Australian Writers Guild wherein she is active in tutoring young playwrights including the International Festival of Young Playwrights, Sydney, 1985. Pamela Van Amstel has a B.S. in Social Work and two certificates in nursing.

Neighbourhood

Set in a neighbourhood centered in an inner city area threatened by progress, the theme of this work is the breakdown of social and family networks and the increased dependence on the state. the center is run by a welfare worker with her own informal style of helping but she, in the end, is made redundant by progress
