Chris Van Strander is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and actor. He's received a Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance Grant, and been a Finalist/Semifinalist for The O'Neill Playwrights' Conference, The Playwrights' Center's PlayLabs, Page 73 Productions' Playwriting Fellowship, Ensemble Studio Theatre's One Act Marathon, and an EST/Sloan Project Commission, among many others. Chris's recent plays include: SALVATION (NY Madness); TRUTH CLOWN (Mottola Theatre Project); WITH YOU (EndTimes Productions/La Petite Morgue); TRUE NAILS (Washington DC's Source Festival); STONEWALL (Packawallop Productions); AFTERLIFE (co-written with Candy Simmons; Minneapolis' RedEye Theater, following a two-year tour across the US and Canada); and YOU ARE HERE, a site-specific performance/installation at a Manhattan dive bar. Chris's screenplay, 25, won the Filmmakers International Screenwriting Award. Chris's work has been produced and developed internationally at over two dozen theaters and festivals, including: Circle East Theater Company (formerly the Circle Repertory Lab), The NY International Fringe Festival, The Management, Bloomington Playwrights Project, Live Girls! Theater (Seattle), Theater Catalyst (Philadelphia), The Asylum Theatre (Las Vegas), The Rogue Valley Plays Festival (Ashland, OR), Emerging Artists Theatre, Collective:Unconscious, The 92nd Street Y, The Director's Company, UP Theater Company, and The Neighborhood Playhouse. His play THE MOTHERING INSTINCT is published by the International Centre for Women Playwrights. Chris is a member of The Dramatists Guild, The Playwrights' Center, Circle East Theater Company, SunsetGun Productions (Minneapolis), 'Wright On! Playwrights Group, and Packawallop Productions' Pack. He graduated from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts (Playwrights Horizons/Experimental Theater Wing), and studied with Maria Irene Fornes, Mac Wellman, and Jeffrey M. Jones in the Flea Theater's 'Pataphysics Workshops. As an actor, Chris has appeared in film, TV, regionally, Off-Off-, and on Broadway. He's originally from Allentown, PA, and lives in New York City. Chris is especially interested in creating work for nontraditional spaces: site-specifically, his plays have been staged everywhere from boats to bars to the rooftop pool of a Holiday Inn. Breuckelen

Synopsis:
a darkly comedic tale about the covergence of Brooklyn's gentrified present and its mostly forgotten past. Blogging hipsters, political witches, Dutch widows, Russian squatters, sapphic socialites, Prohibition-Era bootleggers, and public access TV stars all appear in the play, which takes the shape of an open mic night in a local Brooklyn haunt where poetry, music, performance, and supernatural apparitions all collide.

True Nails

Synopsis:
This play presents an episode in the life of Father Mitch, Man of God. Father Mitch (Tony Villa) is a former convict before he got the calling. Now he is a religious detective with street smarts and a tough guy attitude. In this case he must track down some holy objects, the nails used in the Crucifixion. His opponents, the innocent Mary (Amy Kellet) and the sultry Magdelana (Jennifer Knight), agree to turn over the nails if Father Mitch is successful in defending the Church against historical and moderns sins.
