Things Tom Left Behind, The

Synopsis:
-

Notes:
Six Plays About Hope was our first Draft's Fest, the collaborative effort of six emerging playwrights, six imminent directors, and ten multifaceted actors. Each play was written specifically for The Drafts; playwrights were given randomly compiled cast lists and the theme hope plays before setting out to write them. All of the playwrights who participated in the Six Plays About Hope Draft's Fest were given the theme and two or three cast members before they started to write. They had one month to complete their short piece which was limited to ten minutes. Many of the playwrights met with their director and actors during the writing process in order to get to know the actors better. All of the actors "auditioned" for the playwrights, with one comedic and one dramatic monologue as well as a special skill, fact, or story they wanted to share about themselves. In this way, the playwrights grew to have some understanding of the actors' 'types' prior to writing. The theme chosen by the ensemble inspired a variety of writing, from dealing with grief and disappointment, to overcoming poverty and rowdy neighbors. Overall, we generated some exciting new work, and met playwrights who would become part of our work for years to come.

Turning the Glass Around

Synopsis:
-

Notes:
The Drafts Fest for 2010 is the collaborative effort of seven playwrights, seven directors, and ten multifaceted actors. Playwrights receive randomly compiled cast lists and create stories tailored to The Drafts and their invited Guests based on this years theme, Pre-Existing Condition. All of the playwrights who participated in the Pre-Existing Condition Draft's Fest were given the theme and two or three cast members before they started to write. The theme taken from our health care vocabulary inspired a variety of writing, from pests and childhood emotional scars, to futuristic realities and poverty. Overall, we generated some exciting new work, some of which have been developed into full length plays.
