Actor-writer Sam Younis is a Lebanese-American Texas native. He received an undergraduate degree in Spanish and sociology from Vanderbilt University, where he also studied theatre. He then earned an MFA in acting from Columbia University. Browntown marks Sam's playwriting debut. The play began as a short sketch in the first-ever NYC Arab-American Comedy Festival (2003), produced by comedians Maysoon Zayid and Dean Obeidallah. After the festival, Sam adapted the sketch into a full-length play for the 2004 NYC Fringe Festival, where it won an award for "Overall Excellence in Playwriting." Browntown was later published by Theater Communications Group in the 2010 anthology Salaam. Peace: An Anthology of Middle-Eastern American Drama. Sam's most recent writing project is a screenplay called The Citizen , which just wrapped production in Michigan. The film stars Cary Elwes, William Atherton, Khaled Nabawy, and Rizwan Manji. Sam thanks Martin and Rochelle Denton for their tireless support of independent theater in New York!

        Browntown

Browntown

Browntown
these days, every brown actor is wondering, "Should I take that terrorist role for the money or reject it on principle?" What will Omar, Malek, and Vijay do when put to the test? Browntown explores the issue of cultural stereotyping from the point of view of three brown actors at an audition for a less-than-original tv-movie. their experience at the audition brings to light the ways in which all three actors are both victims and perpetrators of cultural mudslinging.
