Casualty of Cupid's Arrow, The

Synopsis:
Following "one of those nights," DARAN WALTERS, perennial loser in the game of love, inexplicably finds himself back in the home of MITZI DOHERTY, the "one that got away." Mitzi's family-her hardhearted mother, in particular-is none-too-pleased by the sudden reappearance of her ex-boyfriend after more than a year, as it curiously coincides with Mitzi's imminent nuptials. And, as if the situation wasn't awkward enough, Daran also begins seeing a mysterious and strangely alluring-not to mention mischievous-woman about the house named VAL who may (or may not) be the fabled Goddess of Love! Is Daran dreaming? Hallucinating? Or could it be that he has actually been called to serve some higher purpose? The answers are surprising and the laughs are plentiful in this delightful romantic fantasy comedy of love, loss, and letting go.

Notes:
Originally staged under the title "The Celestial Social Service."

Making a Comeback Can be a Real Career Killer

Synopsis:
Frankie Avonlea-a once-famous child television star-is set to make the biggest show business comeback since John Travolta (before Battlefield:Earth, that is.) Or, so says his comically shady talent agent MURRAY SILVERBERG. As a way of protecting his investment, Murray hires JAKE BULLET, a deadly-serious (almost to the point of absurdity) bodyguard. Unfortunately, Frankie turns up dead just as the spotlight comes upon him at the show's final dress rehearsal. Jake must then determine who could have caused Frankie's star to fall& permanently! So, whodunnit? Was it Frankie's stage-widow ANNE KONDA? Or LANCE BOYLE, a young up-and-comer who, it seems, will do anything to become a star? What about MISS KELLY, Murray's trusted assistant who seems to know more about business management than Murray himself? Or could it be obsessed fan CAROL HINGLE who mysteriously turns up for the final dress rehearsal? Maybe even Murray or Jake himself is the guilty party? The investigation into Frankie's death takes Jake and the audience on several harrowing-and hilarious-twists as they try to unravel the clues and uncover the real culprit!

Notes:
Although written in four 15-minute "acts" (with a 5-minute "resolution" act - all designed to accommodate a standard 4-course dinner), the script is highly adaptable to fit the needs of various companies and venues. It also has ample room in it for improvisation and audience interaction.

Real Deal, The

Synopsis:
This comedy of "speculative fiction" explores inter-gender politics in a time when the world order we know is replaced by a "matriarchal" society. In this time, procreation has become a highly organized business with forms to file, quotas to meet, and successful "mergers" absolutely essential. It's perceived as the perfect system; a vast improvement over "the old way." But is it really? One so-called "breeder," a by-the-book young man named BRETT, will be left to wonder when he is called to the estate of the somewhat eccentric MARCY ANNE HESS one morning for what he assumes will be a routine breeding "session." What he will discover upon his arrival is anything but routine!

Notes:
Was first performed as a one-act (entitled "Breeder's Cup") at the Pittsburgh New Works Festival on 9/6/2001. The full-length version greatly expands the original staged story and can either be performed as a full-length play or split into a pair of one acts (in serial-type theater set ups).
