Fiona studied Creative Arts (Drama) at Northumbria University where she first started writing. She spent many years working within community, youth and education settings, running Drama sessions and writing plays in collaboration with different groups. In 2004, Fiona wrote her first play We Love You, arthur which was produced by New Writing North (NWN). It toured regionally and played the assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, in 2005, receiving excEllent reviews. In 2007, Fiona returned to the assembly Rooms with Scarborough (originally produced by NWN in Newcastle as part of the emerge/Bitesize scheme), which won a Fringe First award, became the hottest ticket on the fringe, and transferred to the Royal Court Theatre, London, in 2008. Fiona's next play, the critically acclaimed Geoff Dead: Disco for Sale (commissioned by NWN, produced by Live Theatre and NWN, 2008) was about the mystery surrounding the deaths at the Deepcut army Barracks. Chris Monks, artistic Director of the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough, came to see it and was so impressed he commissioned Fiona to write a new play for the Theatre: the Price of everything. Other plays for Theatre include the Virgin of Stratford (performed reading, Stratford east Theatre Royal, 2005). as well as her Theatre work, Fiona has written for radio, including Beware the Kids (co-written with Karen Laws), commissioned and directed by Kate Rowland for BBC Radio 3's Free Thinking Festival, 2009. Fiona is a graduate of the BBC Writers academy 2007, and has written for Casualty, Doctors, eastenders and Holby City

Geoff Dead: Disco For Sale

Synopsis:
Geoff dead: disco for sale - the words spoken by Geoff Gray Senior when he learned that local papers give the first five words of an obituary free of charge. It's the sort of bleak humour in the midst of tragedy which characterises Fiona evans' new play about the deaths of young soldiers at the Deepcut Barracks.the play concentrates on the deaths of Privates Geoff Gray and James Collinson through the families' fight for a full public inquiry. It's structurally complex, using what is almost a "play within the play", as well as direct addressing of (and interaction with) the audience and flashbacks, and evokes an equally complex reaction in us as we watch and listen.

Price Of Everything, The

Price Of Everything, The
Eddie Carver is a self-made businessman. In stark contrast with his humble beginnings he now boasts a millionaire lifestyle: exotic holidays, flashy cars and real designer clothes. Not to mention exclusive country pursuits: 'hunting, shooting and fishing'. Wife Pam and daughter Ruby want for nothing, and expect the best. and because of Eddie's expertise they'll never be disappointed. then one evening Eddie's behaviour becomes erratic. Have some dodgy business dealings come back to haunt him? Will the high walls, electric fences and CCTV keep evil at bay? Or is the real threat to the family's idyllic life already inside the perimeter? a tense and gripping thriller, this new play calculates the price we pay for material possessions and the effect it has on those we love.
