Literary Agent:    United Agents  represented by Nicki Stoddart

James Hogan wrote a number of plays between the late 70s to the early 90s performed at various fringe venues such as the Gate Theatre, the Cockpit, the Old Red Lion, and the Kings Head in London. Out of his work as a reader for the Royal Court and an organiser of the writers group at the Riverside Studios he founded Oberon Books in 1986. Initially Oberon championed plays by unknown writers, publishing them in high quality editions, a policy which Oberon maintains to this day. But success is proving dangerous in Hogan's view as Oberon constantly has to resist pressure to become more corporate. the company now publishes some 120 new titles year. Hogan wanted to break with the English literary tradition in play publishing and align the list more towards performance. the policy has proved to be a success, but leaves little time for play writing, Hogan's first love. He is now working on a new play. Academic work: Lecturer in theatre studies at the Guildhall University. Talks at Queens University Belfast and Goldsmith's College. Honorary Fellow at the Royal College of Art since 2001. As a business journalist, James was the Government's EEC (now EU) correspondent for five years, interviewing many leading industrial and political figures of the time. He founded the business publishing company World Trade Intelligence and wrote or compiled numerous business reference books including The European Marketplace (Macmillan). He was also on the production team for over 80 episodes of the original C4 Fifteen to One series presented by William G. Stewart.
