Alligator Man

Synopsis:
Telesphonte Broussard is the proudest member of Cajun country's famous alligator-poaching family, and the most successful - having killed more gators and sold more hides than anyone else. Only when he kills the girlfriend of Gruesome Gator, he makes his first mistake. Gruesome is bent on revenge. He buys a belt from Broussard made from his girlfriend's hide, and by "kidnapping" the gator man's spinsterish sister-in-law, lures him into the far reaches of the cypress swamp. there, amidst a raging hurricane, the alligator and the man have their fight to the finish. the townsfolk don't know what has happened, except that Broussard's sister-in-law seems suddenly "liberated" and there is a new gator-hide peddler in town: specializing in "albino" gator hides! In this play the humans are played by whites and the alligators by blacks, introducing tacitly the theme of racism in a play ostensibly about ecology, the macho mentality, and appearance vs. reality. the cast also includes a comic federal agent (ala Raymond Chandler), two gossipy old women, Broussard's sexy wife and Gruesome's equally sexy girlfriend.
