The Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts are in my blood. I was afraid my idyllic, peaceful childhood would be a barrier to honest dramatic writing. But I joined the electric charge that is New York City, dug down deep, and discovered that Yankee blood flows with a dangerously strong current. Twenty years later, my plays speak to people all over the world. Productions have ranged from Mongolia to South Africa to Canada. Most recently, PLAY NICE! ran Off-Broadway and LISTEN! THE RIVER will preview at 59E59 Theatre in New York before heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, 2012. Alice IN BLACK AND WHITE will be premiered in Louisville, Kentucky, in 2013. Before writing plays I was a journalist and fine artist. These early careers were building blocks. Journalism reinforces structure and visual creativity infuses my plays with an Impressionistic quality. Wise mentors have included Milan Stitt and Arthur Giron. I have an advanced degree in playwriting, but experiential learning is the best and most joyful. I will never forget director Tracy Bersley and five generous actors who literally left their egos outside a dusty rehearsal room door to collaborate on SUKI LIVINGSTON OPENS LIKE A PARACHUTE week after week. Nobody was paid anything. There was no production in sight. It was making theater at its purest. It was magic. To date I have written over 50 plays, including 16 full lengths. They range from comedic 10-minute snapshots to two-hour, large-cast dramas. My subjects often involve the environment, creativity, artists, and individuals struggling to find their individual voices. For synopses of all plays, current and upcoming gigs, my full resume (including awards) and miscellaneous fun, please refer to my website.

Research:    Member of the Dramatists Guild of America (as at 2015)

Play Nice!

Synopsis:
PLaY NICe! has been called a "gothic dream," "a fantasy horror story," and a cross between Grimm's Fairy Tales and Flowers in the attic by audiences at staged readings in Ohio, New Jersey and New York. the story was inspired by Jean Genet's classic, the MAIDS, in which role-playing reaches frightening new levels. as PLaY NICe! begins, someone has poisoned the Diamond siblings' mother. When she returns from the hospital, there will be hell to pay the struggle of two sisters and their brother to deal with the Dragon Queen is both highly theatrical and very real. Matilda, the eldest, copes by cooking and forcefully hiding her little sister in order to protect her. Luce, their brother, marches with the high school flag squad -- a fixation which has already put him in hot water. Young Isabel excels at pretend, which becomes the most valuable weapon in their arsenal. they enlist a fourth young person, a homeless poet, and the power of imagination is kicked into high gear. an attic in a New Jersey suburb becomes a battlefield where the lines between generations are blurred and the boundary between the actual and the unreal is reduced to an illuminated rectangle and a box labeled "Mad Rabbit."

Squeezing Papayas

Synopsis:
A short comedy with two actors: Former B-movie actress Sasha Montenegro battles with her notoriously corrupt husband, a former president of Mexico, over the deed to his mansion. (When I was in Mexico many years ago I saw a newspaper article about the ferocious battle going on between former Mexican president Jose Lopez Portillo and his wife Sasha Montenegro, his flamboyant, Serbian wife who had been a B-movie star, over possession of their mansion. I wrote the play to discover why these two stayed together when all they seemed to do was fight.
