a fast-paced, hilarious comedy of modern manners - set in a Home Counties community centre. What could be more unsurprising than a suburban amDram company staging a Jane austen adaptation? Bubi Doll - the Education of Adolf H

Synopsis:
Blending queer fantasy and taut historical investigation, 'the Education of Hitler' provocatively asks, 'What if Hitler had in fact been hiding his true sexuality - and was gay?' From this audacious starting point, Tim Luscombe's darkly comic new play is a breathtaking exploration of power, politics, violence, gay sexuality, and what it means to be a man in the twentieth century.

Emma, 21, bright and beautiful, is an imaginist. Devoutly convinced that she'll never marry, she lives to marry off everyone else. When we meet her, she's putting all her efforts into getting her young friend Harriet Smith partnered to the handsome but ghastly vicar, Mr Elton. Hearing that Emma has no intention to marry, Mr Frank Churchill becomes intrigued and begins to pay her attentions, complicating Emma's plans horribly, while Emma's friendship with Mr Knightley provides her with plenty of wit and warmth. Will she realise that Mr Churchill's intentions are not straightforward? Will her schemes for Harriet's future make her the architect of her own downfall? Will Mr Knightley ever get his girl? This stage adaptation locates the action in early 19th century Epsom, a village 16 miles from London. It's seen brighter days as a successful spa town and is now home to a society of gossiping women with little do but make matches and mischief.

Naked Joke, The

Synopsis:
a hilarious and moving gay re-imagining of Chekhov's Three Sisters. a large, old house in the Lake District. Three out-of-fashion gay performers have gone to a gay artistic commune in Cumbria to lick their wounds after failing to come up with a follow up to their Off-Broadway hit 'Naked Men Telling Jokes'. there they meet a bunch of weary BBC actors on location work. the motivations Chekhov's characters have for theorising, yearning for the unattainable and ignoring each other, find precise parallels for gay under-employed actors with addiction issues or new age bents and spiritual yearnings; men who love their profession and the idea of success more than each other, and who pontificate about their impact on the future, while remaining childless. the play seems to be particularly current through some of the characters' sense of imminent global meltdown, and the alternative ways to avert the situation, ranging from organic farming to high-speed spiritual evolution. By bringing Chekhov's play into the twenty-first century, the comedic aspect shines brightly.

Richer Dust, A

Synopsis:
Los Angeles, 1940. Movie star couple Morgan Kent and Lenore Fingal live in alcohol- and sun-soaked luxury in the Hollywood Hills. But when Morgan's sailor-brother Sid arrives uninvited, Morgan's life is turned on its head. Sid's on leave. He's humble, loving, good-humoured, and fighting for Britain. He unwittingly brings with him all the stories about Morgan's ignoble origins, for Morgan Kent is really Leslie Booker from Southsea. Lenore revels in the ammunition this gives her against her husband, with whom she has become less and less enchanted. Good-looking and good with women, Morgan (Les)'s life, until Sid's visit, was full of enchantment - a handsome face, broad shoulders and luck swiftly raising him to fame and fortune - but he's always been aware that he's lucky whereas Sid is actually good. When a seductive gossip columnist traps Sid into dishing the dirt, Les' career, along with his piece of mind, is under attack. Away from gilded, make-believe Hollywood, Sid boldly continues to protect democracy and save the Empire, while Morgan is reduced to making movies about it. His guilt is so great, he becomes ill. His publicist works overtime to salvage the situation and make the best of his star's declining fortunes. While Lenore sues for divorce, a final family reunion back in Southsea rams home the difference between the two men, and provokes the final humiliation for Morgan.

Silas Marner - the Immigrant

Synopsis:
At the beginning of the Nineteenth Century in Manchester, Silas is framed for stealing the church funds. Proclaimed guilty, and heartbroken after his fiancee's rejection of him, he leaves home behind, and heads south to the Midlands. He lives as a linen weaver and a recluse, hoarding the gold coins he earns, only to have them stolen from him. One night, a child, abandoned by her dying, opium-addicted mother in the snow, wanders into Silas' house. Deciding to keep the child, his life completely alters. He's been robbed of his gold, but it's returned to him in the form of golden-haired Eppie. However, when Eppie grows to be a teenager, a fight for paternity ensues between the rich local landowner and Silas. She chooses Silas over wealth and privilege, and helps him integrate into village society. Never able to clear up the details of the initial robbery, caring for Eppie provides joy for her, for Silas and everyone in the village. This adaptation of George Eliot's third novel is a sophisticated examination of migration, community, religion, class and money - and of one man's value and morality.

Stay

Synopsis:
Asylum claims based on sexual orientation and gender identity have been recognised in the UK since 1999. However, having the right to seek refugee status, and actually gaining asylum on this basis, have proved to be two very different things. Through farcical comedy and hard-hitting raw conflict, Stay pitches Ade, a Karundian refugee, against Vincent, the border guard with a prejudice. This urgent, contemporary tale exposes the endemic corruption and prejudice at the heart of the Home Office's immigration strategy, and aims to question all of our attitudes to race, gender and nationality.
