East 10th Street: Self Portrait with Empty House

Synopsis:
In East 10th Street: Self-Portrait with Empty House, long-standing, downtown theatre icon Edgar Oliver takes the audience on a fantastic voyage through the strange rooms of the apartment house where he has lived since his first years in New York. Inhabiting the dark, mysterious halls of an East Village tenement building are a dwarf Cabalist, a possible Nazi, the landlord's former wet nurse who apparently lives in a nest of rags, and many other memorable persons. Edgar leads the audience up to the final room, his own, at the top of the derelict stairs, wherein lie the secrets of his own family and the unbelievable odyssey that brought him there. This incredible cast of characters illuminate the sad, funny, brilliant and deeply personal story

Etiquette of Death, The

Synopsis:
Death is a messy and terrifying horror. Or, it can be a quiet, unapologetic thief in the night. For the past twenty-five years living in the East Village Chris Tanner has been surrounded by death. Hes obsessed with how the dying and those who love them behave in the face of it. When you explore the artifice and manners that surround this unruly journeythe etiquette of deaththe outcome can be absurd, paradoxical, wrenching, and at times, hilarious. Hes asked a group of artists he admires to help him put together a collage of scenes, songs, poetry, music and dance that explores the Etiquette of Death.

Helen & Edgar

Synopsis:
This is the world premiere of Helen & Edgar, a mesmerizing, hilarious and heartbreaking tale of Edgar Oliver and his sister Helen's strange childhood in Savannah, and their mother's struggle with madness. Helen & Edgar is an expanded version of a story Oliver has been weaving piece by piece since his debut at The Moth in 1998, when he instantly became an audience favorite. It pushes the boundaries of theater by experimenting with long-form storytelling. Unscripted and evolving from one night to the next, the evening showcases the power of spontaneity and authenticity celebrated by The Moth, stripping away the artifice and set pieces of scripted plays to reveal an honest, unadorned personal tale. Oliver simply tells a story.
