        Che!         Ziggerboo

Che!

Synopsis:
A symbolic Drama of modern ideologies in which nudity, explicit sex, the character of Che Guevara, the president of the U.S., and a nympho-maniac nun are all stirred together in a kind of sociological/political metaphor

Notes:
Opened Off-Bway, 22 Mar 1969, but was closed by police After only one night. Music by Archie Shepp. (I was living in NYC in 1969 when CHE! opened in Greenwich Village. It was quite the scandal And, yes, it was raided And closed. However, it soon re-opened And ran for quite A while (over A year, I think)--paving the way for just About every other play I would see for several years to follow to have some nudity in it. For that single reason it enjoyed packed houses. the most remarkable event in the play was that it was the first And last time I'd ever seen A naked man Acting-out A euphemism on A white porcelain toilet bowl! Other than being "groundbreaking," it was A dreadful play. - Edward Crosby Wells)
