Since 1970 David Reiser has written music and lyrics for over 50 musicals - no small feat when one considers that during most of those years he taught choral music and served as music department chair of a large Chicago suburban high school. Over half of his musicals have been published (Samuel French, Pioneer Drama, Baker's Plays and Drama Source) and are in continuous production throughout the United States and Canada-occasionally in Europe, Japan and Australia-and all but a few of the unpublished musicals have had at least one production. Some of his more significant productions include Molineaux, at Theatre Row Theatre and Old Goat Song at the Jose Quintero Theatre, both of New York City; Ben at the National Theatre in Washington, DC; Mrs. Scrooge at the Athenaeum Theatre in Chicago; and two London productions: Ballets Russes at the Rosemary Branch Theatre and Old Goat Song at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre."

Creepy Creeps Of Pilgrim Road, The

Synopsis:
Here's the comical toe-tapper that your audiences have been waiting for! the doors are wide open at the Creeps' zany abode, so come right in and get a load of this monstrously fun musical! the Creeps, a charming though unusual family, live in a dilapidated mansion in Edible Falls. Heading the home is Sinbad and his captivating spouse, Tarantula. We also meet up with their teenage niece, Sally, gorgeous maid Lullaby Jones and a butler who just happens to resemble a billy goat. Unfortunately, Flora Limetree, a local society dragon, loathes the Creeps. Each year she enters Pilgrim Road in the All-American Street Contest. But every year the street loses, due, in her opinion, to the appearance of the Creeps' house. Evily scheming with her nephew, Bubba, Flora re-draws the town limits, and the Creeps find themselves outsiders. To complicate matters, Prince Un Ravel arrives from Egypt as a guest in the Creeps' household, and "M.D." (short for Mysterious Dude) falls in love with Sinbad's grandmother, who just happens to be raising crocodiles in the dungeon! Throw in your basic pirates and vultures, add a talking clock and a lively, ghostly portrait and top it off with an ancient telephone operator who lives in the walls. Spice it all up with a number of show-stopping tunes, and you have the recipe for the blockbuster of the year. Eventually, the Creeps are back where they belong, and thanks to them, Pilgrim Road wins the contest. You'll have to see it to believe it! Wonderful small roles. Easy to rehearse. No production problems. A non-stop, all-in-fun laugh-a-thon! With this family entertainment, your cast and audience will never forget the side-splitting tunes of "Hickory, Dickory, Dock," "It's Nice to Have a Man Around the Dungeon" and many more original delights! When the Creeps come to your town, you and your audience are ready for fun!

Unable to find work the musicians are forced to sell their instruments to buy food and must make the musical sounds with their voices. they come to a village and ask for food but the citizens are unwilling to share what little they have. Undaunted, the musicians start boiling water in which they drop a stone, telling the curious villagers they are making stone soup. the villagers begin to contribute various foods until there is a large pot of delicious soup which all enjoy at an impromptu feast. Molineaux

Synopsis:
a musical based upon the true story of a former American slave, Tom Molineaux, who battled his way to London in the early 1800s to challenge the world boxing champion, Thomas Cribb. Cribb, however, wants to retire and refuses to fight. Undaunted, Molineaux defeats all the contenders to the crown (while having a secret love affair with Cribb's mistress) and becomes one of the most popular sports figures in London. Boxing fans, however, don't want a foreigner (and especially a black man) to be their new champion and persuade Cribb to come out of retirement and defeat the young upstart. In what was hailed as "the battle of the century", Molineaux actually beats Cribb but loses the match because of cheating on the part of Cribb's manager and the timekeeper. Denied the championship, Molineaux falls into alcoholism and dies in Ireland.

Mrs Scrooge

Synopsis:
Mrs. Scrooge is a charming musical adaptation of the Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol" but since the genders are reversed, most of the major and minor leads are for females. there are also many supporting roles/chorus parts for children, teens and adults. Get in the Christmas Spirit! MRS. SCROOGE--A new musical based on Charles Dickens' classic, "A Christmas Carol" but with a twist: the genders are reversed. It can be produced with a cast as small as 15 or as large as 50, with leads and minor leads for children, teens and adults--plus many small roles for chorus members. All of the major leads--and many of the minor leads--are female, making it an excellent vehicle for male-short community and school theatre. While this version reverses the genders of the main characters, this doesn't change the title lead's stinginess or displeasure for the Yuletide season. This new musical bends tradition to offer family audiences a female Ebenezer and a female Bob Cratchit. Penny- pinching tycoon Eliza Tupper, a widow whose sour disposition has earned her the nickname "Mrs. Scrooge", learns charity and gratitude not just from the spirited visits by four ghosts but also from Mary Jane, her newly arrived orphan niece, and her kindly housekeeper, Francine, the female equivalent of "Bob Cratchit." Aunt Eliza decides that an orphanage would make the best home for Mary Jane. Fortunately for MJ, Francine persuades the old grouch to let her niece stay with her for the holidays. After Aunt Eliza has a quartet of ghostly visitors, her outlook changes. the character of "Tiny Tim" is replaced by Francine's husband who was injured in a factory accident. there's also a hilariously forced romance between Francine's eldest daughter, Patricia, and a redcap who befriends her family. Warmly familiar, Reiser's songs fit the story like tinsel on the holiday tree. Packed with humor and compassion, this show is truly in the "spirit" of the season.
