Chris Thorpe was a founder member of Unlimited Theatre and still works and tours with the company. He is also an Artistic Associate of live art/Theatre company Third Angel as well as working closely with, among others, Forest Fringe, Slung Low, Chris Goode, RashDash, Belarus Free Theatre and Portuguese company mala voadora for whom he has just completed a trilogy of new plays. He has an ongoing collaboration with poet Hannah Jane Walker, and their shows the Oh Fuck Moment and I Wish I Was Lonely are published by Oberon Books. As a playwright Chris has written radio and stage drama, as well as translating the work of Ugljesa Sajtinac (the play Huddersfield is also published by Oberon), Belarus Free Theatre, and Ze Maria Mendes. He also writes and performs solo work, plays guitar in the political noise/performance proect #TORYCORE and works as a selector for the National Student Drama Festival.

Am I Dead Yet?

Synopsis:
Death is no longer a moment. It is a process. A process that can be reversed. Performed by Jon Spooner and Chris Thorpe, Am I Dead Yet? is filled with stories and songs about death and dying and about how we dont talk about it enough. Which is actually a lot more fun than it sounds. The show is inspired by research into contemporary developments in resuscitation science and made in collaboration with Emergency Care doctors and professionals. As part of the show were intending to host a Death Cafe at each venue/place we tour to: At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. Our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. A Death Cafe is a group directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counselling session. Our Death Cafes are always offered& on a not for profit basis; in an accessible, respectful and confidential space; with no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product or course of action; alongside refreshing drinks and nourishing food  and cake! Agamemnon must sacrifice his daughter, Clytemnestra must try to stop him, Iphigenia must accept her fate, the Chorus must watch. Ships lie dormant in harbours, and thousands of troops sit on the shore, growing restless and unruly. Helen is gone, and pursuit of her has been stalled by windless seas. To raise the winds to send his fleet to Troy, Agamemnon is commanded by the gods to sacrifice his daughter, Iphigenia. But his deceit of his wife, Clytemnestra and the killing of his child, will end up tearing him and everything around him to pieces. Euripides' story of a father moved to murder his daughter, Iphigenia at Aulis, is one that has been reinvented and retold anew throughout history. The Iphigenia Quartet sees four of the UK's most exciting and radical playwrights - Caroline Bird (Agamemnon), Suhayla El Bushra (Iphigenia), Lulu Raczka (Clytemnestra), and Chris Thorpe (Chorus) - create explosive responses to this classical tragedy. Each play is a reimagining this story of familial catastrophe from the differing perspectives of the key characters in the play: Agamemnon, Clytemnestra, Iphigenia and the Chorus.

Queer Up North has teamed up with Development Lab at Theatre in the Mill to lay down an artistic gauntlet. As we ask ourselves what `queer' might mean in 2010, we've commissioned three leading experimental theatre makers and challenged them to create short pieces that capture their own personal take on `queer'. All three are performed together for two nights only. Part of the Queer Up North commissioning programme funded by The Foyle Foundation. Co-commissioned by Queer Up North and Development Lab. Where You Stand - How is your sense of who you are shaped by where you find yourself? Where You Stand is a cross between a performance, a poem and a puzzle, exploring ideas around (dis)orientation - both sexual and spatial. Chris Goode is a writer and theatre-maker who created the much-loved storytelling show The Adventures of Wound Man and Shirley in last year's festival. Where You Stand is a companion piece to Who You Are, which Chris recently made for Tate Modern. High Speed Impact. Test Number One - This is just a story about some things that happened to me once. It was all true. At least I think it's true at the moment. There'll be some stuff about aeroplanes. Most of the stories involve aeroplanes at some point. We'll have to see where it goes. Chris Thorpe is a writer and performer from Manchester. As well as devising and performing Unlimited Theatre, Third Angel and others, he also writes plays and screenplays, and sometimes radio drama for the BBC. He is currently working on a new book of solo pieces called Eating Wasps. It's All About the Full Stops - Jogelen: to entertain by performing tricks. That's exactly what Rachael will be trying to do in this one-woman piece; trying to keep everything together, all the balls in the air and not end up with egg on her face. Rachael Walton is co-Artistic Director of Third Angel, a company making projects in theatre, live art, video, photography, visual art and on the internet. They regularly tour both here and abroad but are proud to be from Sheffield and have made work there for the last 15 years with many extraordinary people.

Huddersfield

Synopsis:
"Sajtinac was in West Yorkshire for only three days, though that was enough time to notice "the way it rains in that boring way it does". His point is that for the generation who grew up under communism, then went through the war, Huddersfield - even in the rain - seems a distant realm of infinite promise. Set in the obscure Serbian town of Zrenjarin, the play commemorates a beer-and-spliff-fuelled reunion of a group of former school friends coming to terms with turning 30. Rasha, possessor of a dark and dangerous intellect, lives in a sty and behaves like a pig. Even the toilet door has fallen prey to his drunken father's haphazard asset-stripping. Downstairs, his friend Ivan is a damaged poet who is in and out of mental institutions. And Igor, who left to make a new life in England, is back home to intensify their sense of self-loathing. A remote island in the Southern Ocean. A noise that never stops. A massive iceberg in the harbour. A body in the water. And an 17-year old girl who is the only one asking questions. In this unique, Fringe First winning theatrical experience, poet Hannah Jane Walker and Chris Thorpe explore the universally-known feeling that dawns when a huge mistake has been made. Set around an office table - the scene of so many oh fuck moments, audiences are invited to share their own mortifying slip-ups as Chris and Hannah examine the poetic guts of mistakes in a bundle of words and strip lighting. An oh fuck moment is the truest, funniest, most terrifying of feelings. Sometimes, mistakes are so great that there is no way back. Presumption

Synopsis:
Presumption captures a young couple at the moment when they realise that their relationship has become comfortable rather than passionate, habitual rather than Dramatic. Against the backdrop of an insignificant quarrel, they examine their relationship and their willingness or not to accept its limitations. Third Angel's work is always visually interesting and here the mental exertions are mirrored by the performers' physical efforts as they struggle on and off the stage with an ever-increasing collection of domestic detritus. the piece is likely to resonate with young adult audiences.

Safety

Synopsis:
Michael is a well-known photographer specializing in war zones. His daughter has just been saved from drowning by a total stranger while Michael stood by. He and his wife, Susan, have the stranger round to dinner - to thank him. It does not go well. Susan finds Michael cold and distant. the stranger thinks that Michael is an emotional bully. Michael only feels truly alive when he's in danger. Interspersed with scenes showing Michael in Bosnia, Safety deals with a very modern form of alienation: how can we respond humanely to the horrors depicted in the media? And what happens to those whose job it is to report them?

Tangle

Synopsis:
Tangle is set in an underground research facility on Wimbledon Common where two scientists are on the verge of an incredible breakthrough. It's about the search for a lost brother, a missing uncle, a dead wife and an untraceable atom. It's about heroes, the ethics of progress and daring to believe in things we cannot see. It's a bit like Doctor Who meets Moonlighting. Tangle mixes quantum physics with urban myth, Albert Einstein with Great Uncle Bulgaria and uses leading edge scientific advances to teleport an orange. No really, we do. As with all of Unlimited's shows it's smart and it's funny. It throws some serious emotional and intellectual punches and it isn't scared of being a bit silly. It tells a great story and leaves room for you to do some of the imagining for yourselves. And we teleport an orange. What more could you possibly want?
