Snoo Wilson. Political playwright. August 2, 1948 - July 3, 2013. Aged 64. SNOO WILSON belonged to a generation of overtly political playwrights that included David Hare, David Edgar and Howard Brenton but he had a much lighter touch than his peers. Snoo used humour to make his point with the result that sometimes it was not obvious if he was being serious, although some of his plays became classics of their time. Andrew James Wilson was born in Reading to a couple of teachers and attended Bradfield College in Berkshire where his father taught and where Snoo gained a glider pilot's licence. His mother was the head of the nearby Downe House school. Acquiring the nickname Snoo in childhood, he read American studies at the University of East Anglia. In 1968 he became a founder member alongside David Hare and Tony Bicat of the Portable Theatre Company which performed his play Pignight, a dark work about an East End gangster and his prostitute girlfriend. Considerably lighter was 1973's the Pleasure Principle, which was put on at London's Royal Court Theatre. Snoo went on to work as a script editor for the BBC's Play For Today as well as writing on his own account plays including the Beast, about occultist Aleister Crowley, performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Glad Hand, shown at the Royal Court. He also wrote the screenplay for the 1985 film Shadey. His reputation suffered a dip in the Nineties but revived in recent times and he had begun work on a commissioned play for the Theatre Royal in Plymouth before his sudden death. In 1976 he married the journalist Ann McFerran with whom he had a daughter Jo and sons Patrick and David. All survive him. - Daily Express obituary

Vampire
Synopsis:
took the audience from repression and violence in a 19th-century Welsh vicarage, via Freud and Jung, to punks in Kew Gardens, and made an impressive thesis of societal blood-sucking. It ended with Enoch Powell emerging ghoulishly from a coffin to utter his famous "rivers of blood" speech.
