Boy Who Left Home, The

Synopsis:
Described by one reviewer as 'Hans Andersen meets gritty TV soap opera,' this plays tells the story of a little boy who has never before left home and finds himself cast adrift in the forest after a storm. A series of innocence-losing encounters follows as he tries to find the wicked witch's house where he will find the key that will lead him back home. In this voyage of self discovery the demons of the forest waylay him with their mediaeval style of pagan trickery. the Brothers Grimm characters make cameo appearances, Sleeping Beauty, CinderElla and Hansel and Gretel. In this modern reworking, however, the stepmother is an alcoholic nymphomaniac, Sleeping Beauty has been faking her spell out of sheer petulance at her life with her parents. A powerful metaphor the play for a boy in search of adulthood. As he struggles to grow up, he has to overcome confusion, learn about the big bad world and make painful choices before coming home

Canvas

Canvas
Justine and Alan need to get away from it all. And what could be better than being at one with nature, camping, on a farm in the middle of the Welsh countryside? So long as that's camping with all the luxuries, of course - real beds, wood burning stoves, an espresso machine, even a kitchen sink. But what do they need to get away from? And how about seasoned campers Bridget and Rory? And upwardly mobile Amanda and Alistair? Why do they also need to get back to basics? the three couples find themselves in adjacent tents. But when the canvas walls let out all their secrets and when it's only their children who see eye-to-eye, perhaps the rural idyll isn't so perfect after all.

Who Cares

Synopsis:
The NHS belongs to us. In the run-up to the 2015 General Election the NHS is emerging as the key issue in the party political agenda. The Royal Court is responding to that public passion and debate by staging Michael Wynne's new verbatim play Who Cares. Over the past 18 months Michael Wynne has interviewed nurses, doctors, paramedics, historians, policy makers and politicians up and down the country, gathering an unrivalled collection of verbatim testimonies from those connected to every aspect of the NHS. Taking over the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs as well as hidden spaces around the building, this journeying performance will give voice to the unheard perspectives on the past, present and possible future of our NHS. In a promenade performance audiences will be led around intimate spaces by a cast of professional actors.
