Colleen M. Hughes is a Boston-based playwright born and raised in Somerville, MA. She received her BA in English and Theatre from the College of the Holy Cross, where she wrote her first play for her senior thesis. She holds an MFA in Playwriting from Boston University. Colleen's work has been produced and developed at the Boston Theatre Marathon, Boston Playwrights' Theatre, New Repertory Theatre, and the College of the Holy Cross. Her ten-minute play The Mouse was a national semifinalist for the 2011 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival's Ten-Minute Play Award. Colleen was a participant in the first annual Freedom Art Retreat sponsored by Playwrights' Commons for emerging Boston-area theatre artists and was a New Voices Playwriting Fellow at New Repertory Theatre in Watertown, MA. She was a semifinalist for the 2012 O'Neill Playwrights Conference.

Synopsis:
Sr. Barbara OKeefe has been excommunicated for approving an abortion to save the life of a patient at the Catholic hospital where she works. When Bishop Williams offers her a return to full standing in the Church if she repents, everyone has difficult choices to make: should Sr. Barbara sacrifice her beliefs to get back the community she loves? Should fellow nuns Sr. Catherine and Sr. Elizabeth support Sr. Barbara in her time of need or, as Williams desires, seek to remove her from their order? Inspired by a true story, Directive 47 explores faith and doctine, power and compassion, and what happens when those values collide.

Mirror, Mirror

Synopsis:
Fairytales are rife with stories about women in conflict with one another, even in this modern day and age. In a Canadian Algonquin tribe, Rough-Face Girl taunts her two sisters about her superior looksand her sisters vow revenge. Over in Germany, a strong-willed Queen tries to win over her flaky step-daughter Snow White, but her plan backfires. Can the story change for the Young Head of the Family, a beautiful, clever girl from China who sets out to change the classic fairytale culture of a patriarchal society in which females are pitted against each other?
