Outrageous Fortune
Synopsis:
Set in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II, OUTRaGeOUS FORTUNe is a comedy Drama concerning the members of a Seabee battalion who refuse to follow Navy protocol in performing their jobs and confronting the enemy. Led by a conscientious rebellious commander and his demanding, crude, executive officer, the men are often outraged by the incompetence of the High Command whom they try to circumvent at every turn. Besides the commander and his assistant, the principal characters consist of a ranking petty officer who has inside information in advance on every move the battalion makes, and a naive young seaman whose morals come into frequent conflict with his mentor, the petty officer. Involving a mostly male cast, the story depicts the less brutal, often humorous, and chaotic side of war as well as the brutality of an occupying force. the play is based on one of my novels.
