Mohammad Al Attar is a graduate from the English Literature Faculty, Damascus University (2002); a graduate in Theatrical Studies - the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts, Damascus (2002). Al Attar also received an MA degree in Applied Drama from Goldsmiths College, University of London (2010), with focus on the Political and Social Role of Drama. In 2006, Al Attar joined the Studio Theatre Company in Damascus, participating in several interactive projects in rural areas, and he was the dramaturg of some of the companys plays including Samah (2008), a collective devised performance with group of young prisoners from Damascus Juvenile Institute. Al Attar worked as a dramaturg for many productions including: Henrik Ibsens The Enemy of the People. His play Withdrawal was published in English and Arabic, and was adapted for performances and readings in London, New York, New Delhi, Berlin, Tunisia and Beirut. His play Online was premiered at the Royal Court Theatre, London, as part of the rehearsed readings event After the Arab Spring. His recent work Look at the street&this is what hope looks like, premiered in Brussels, Berlin and Athens as part of Meeting Points 6 Festival, and was presented in THEATERFORMEN 2012 Festival in Germany. His most recent play Could you Please Look into the Camera? had its Arabic world premiere in a production directed by Omar Abusaada at Doosan Art Center, Seoul. The English version was premiered in Edinburgh, Scotland, in a production by National Theatre of Scotland, directed by Catrin Evans. Al Attars career as a writer includes several numerous articles and critical contributions published in many magazines and newspapers. Al Attar was also the coordinater for the International Theater & Modern Dance Programe, at Damascus Arab Capital of Culture 2008.
